tax season starts again
We’re just a few days into the new year, and I’m already thinking about my income tax return. The 2010 forms are now available on irs.gov, along with lots of helpful information. For instance, did you know that the Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, enacted in mid-December, contains changes to the tax code that the IRS is still working to implement? They advise that taxpayers using certain deductions should wait until at least mid-February to file—see the article here.
Since W-2s don’t usually arrive until the end of January, I’d have to wait until then anyway. But until then, I can get my forms and paperwork ready, watch the mail for 1099s, and maybe run a draft of the numbers based on the last paystubs of the year.
