Puppy Love!

This past weekend, I adopted a puppy from a local rescue shelter. I found out that he had been given up by someone who couldn’t take care of him.

Nonprofit shelters are a great place to adopt a pet, but did you know that Sarasota County’s Animal Services also has lots of great pets waiting to be adopted? People give up their pets for many reasons, often having more to do with the owner than with the suitability of the pet.

On the Animal Services website, you can see photos of dogs and cats currently available for adoption. But there’s lots of great information for current pet owners too: You can learn about the no cost/low cost spay/neuter program for pet owners with low or fixed income, find information on emergency preparation with pets, and find a list of area dog parks. There is even a list of dangerous dogs residing in the county, with addresses and photos.

I can’t wait to get home to my puppy this afternoon. If you’ve been considering adding a pet to your family, consider adoption!
