Arts and crafts, .gov-style
My colleague over at the Highlights blog posts some pretty cool links on Fridays, and I’ve noticed a lot of them are arts- and crafts-related. These are the links that I, too, love, and I’ve been a little jealous that I can’t fill my blog with pretty art exhibits and craft tutorials.
But wait! Maybe I can. I typed some searches into USA.gov’s new improved search engine and found some really cool stuff. Here are some of the best:
- The Department of the Interior’s Indian Arts and Crafts Board, according to their website, “was created by Congress to promote the economic development of American Indians and Alaska Natives through the expansion of the Indian arts and crafts market.” In addition to explaining the legal protections offered to these craftspeople, the site has links to museums and lots of pretty pictures.
- Who knew you could take studio art classes at the Smithsonian? I sure didn’t. I think the commute will prevent me from enrolling anytime soon, but I may start checking in to the S+ART Smithsonian Studio Arts blog.
- Kids.gov, “The Official Kids’ Portal to the U.S. Government,” has this great list of kids’ activities drawn from various departments, and includes games, lessons, and you guessed it, crafts! I think I’d like to try making NASA’s edible Cassini spacecraft.
